CCS SCHOOL COUNSELORS ADVOCATE FOR THEIR ROLE IN RALEIGH

March 14, 2017 was designated by the North Carolina School Counselor Association (NSCA) as North Carolina School Counseling Legislative Day.  Legislative Day is formed as a means to allow NC school Counselors to advocate to the state Senators and Representatives about their role in schools and improving student growth and development.  This year was the first in many that some of the Cumberland County Schools’ school counselors wanted to be part of that voice.  Nine school counselors across levels (central office, elementary, middle, and high) took the opportunity to meet with different legislators, including those that represent Cumberland County, to discuss what is currently working and to advocate for what is still needed. As a group, the CCS school counselors came back feeling heard and empowered and are looking forward to participating in future legislative events.
